Lorraine S. Gravley Specializes in Critical Care Nursing and Air Medical Evacuation for the USAF
WOODBRIDGE, VA, April 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lorraine S. Gravley, Major with the U.S. Air Force, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing.
With 16 years of professional experience, Ms. Gravley specializes in critical care nursing and air medical evacuation. She attained the rank of major at the USAF in 2004. A respected authority on patient movement, she is charged with troubleshooting issues, writing policies, and working with civilians in the field of medical evacuation. Ms. Gravley enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1988; it was while serving as a medical technician and combat medic that she was inspired to sign up for the nursing program. She eventually made the switch to the USAF, where she began her career as a flight nurse. She also worked for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.
In addition to her work for the military, Ms. Gravley is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Studies at the University of Maryland. Though granted 24 months by the USAF to complete the program, she plans to become an acute care nurse practitioner in just 16 months, this December. She attributes her success to the work ethic that she acquired from being raised on a ranch, which did not distinguish between jobs for girls and jobs for boys, and which taught her to take to the task at hand without questioning it.
Ms. Gravley is a Critical Care Registered Nurse. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1993 from Montana State University. She also completed training at Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College. Her affiliations include the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Along with her husband, she volunteers regularly with St. Matthew's United Methodist Church. In five years, Ms. Gravley aspires to become a chief nurse and take on a greater leadership role in the Air Force.
