Bruegger's Airport Locations Win National Praise
Bakery-cafe receives nod for best franchise; best food and beverage operator

BURLINGTON, VT, November 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The readers of Airport Revenue News (ARN) recently nominated Bruegger's Bakery-Cafe for five of the publication's 2010 Best Airports & Concessionaire Awards, an annual celebration that identifies the nation's top retail and restaurant operators at airports. Following an industry-wide voting process, winners will be announced at the organization's annual conference in March 2010.

Bruegger's nominations include Best New Food & Beverage Concept, Best Restaurant Design, Best Food/Beverage Brand Operator, and Best Overall Food & Beverage Operator in the small airport category and Best Franchisor in the overall category. Leaders in the in the airport industry nominate brands and judge the final winners.

"Our concept is very effective for airport locations," notes Chris Cheek, Bruegger's VP of Franchise Development. "We offer a flexible design for airports, healthy and quick food options for travelers and a proven operating model for our franchisees."

Bruegger's most recent location in Cleveland Hopkins Airport received the bulk of the nominations. Just three months ago in July 2009, the bakery opened in BAA USA's newest AIRMALL at CLE, a 76,000 square foot retail and restaurant space. A local franchisee owns and operates Bruegger's 934 square-foot bakery cafe at the airport.

The Cleveland Hopkins bakery joins Bruegger's other airport locations at Boston's Logan Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The popular bakery-cafe chain launched its airport strategy in late 2006 and continues to actively pursue other airport locations.

In addition to the nod from Airport Revenue News, Nation's Restaurant News named Bruegger's Operator of the Year in early October. At the same time the company's CEO, James Greco, was chosen as the Golden Chain award winner, an honor bestowed annually on those multi-unit restaurant executives that exemplify outstanding leadership and commitment to their employees.

The company continues to grow, despite the lagging economy. As of October 31, the chain boasted 291 locations in 24 states and the District of Columbia. About one-third of its locations are franchise-owned, including three of its four airport locations.
