Southern California Aeronautic Association elects aviation veteran Nissen Davis as 2009 President
Veteran aerospace executive Nissen Davis has been elected president of the Southern California Aeronautic Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the art, sport and science of aviation.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA, December 23, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Veteran aerospace executive Nissen Davis has been elected president of the Southern California Aeronautic Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the art, sport and science of aviation. He succeeds James Ragsdale, who becomes the organization's vice president.

SCAA is known for its prestigious Howard Hughes Memorial Award, which annually recognizes individuals for their significant contributions to aviation or aerospace.

The 2008 honoree is Dr. Ronald Sugar, chairman, president and CEO of Northrop Grumman, who will receive his award from 2007 honoree James Albaugh, president of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, at a banquet at the Jonathan Club, Los Angeles on February 5.

Other honorees include Jack Northrop, the first honoree in 1978, Neil Armstrong, Chuck Yeager, Burt Rutan, Sy Ramo, Jimmy Doolittle, Kelly Johnson and Pete Conrad.

The Association was founded in 1925 as the Aero Club of Southern California, local chapter of the National Aeronautic Association, official record-keeper for UnitedS States aviation.

SCAA awards scholarships annually to students following a career in aviation or aerospace.and was instrumental in saving the famed Hughes HK-1 Flying Boat (the "Spruce Goose"), now the centerpiece of the Evergreen Aviation Museum in
McMinnville, Ore.
